Handmade from glass and ceramic, this Amazonian bowl set II is as suitable for decoration as it is for serving friends and family.

The distinctive and beautiful glaze pattern is inspired by an aerial view of the Southern Venezuelan wetlands of the Canaima National Park – a UNESCO world heritage site – which have become increasingly threatened by pollution from mineral extraction industries. As much political statements as aesthetic pieces, these bowls are perfect for any home.

This Amazonian Bowl Set is part of our Wanderlust capsule collection. We took inspiration from the incredible experiences of Humboldt and Bonpland on their 1799 expedition to Latin America. As a result of this trip they wrote about incredible landscapes, flora and fauna, and inspired future generations of naturalists. We share their love for these places, and are passionate about spreading awareness to the wider world.

Cecilia, the talented ceramicist who created this Amazonian bowl set, took inspiration from the lakes and rivers of Southern Venezuela. Humboldt and Bonpland visited these wetlands two centuries ago, and put them on the world map. Tragically, much has changed since then. This is due to industrial pollution and mining, which have transformed the water and poisoned the environment. As a result, these places could be lost if we don’t take action now.

Cecilia is doing her part to bring awareness to this problem, using her craft to make a difference. Mixing glass and ceramic, she thus creates these visually stunning and metaphorically poignant pieces. She designs her work to resemble aerial views of a complex wetland world.  The result is an incredible representation of a fantastic – yet fragile – landscape. A landscape which, sadly, is on the verge of extinction.

Cecilia sources materials from her Venezuelan homeland and beyond. The clay comes from Barquisimeto, whilst many of the unique colors come from local pigments. She works in a studio shared with other Maison Makers, and believes this enriches her work. The exchange of ideas, techniques and opinions it facilitates leads to new creative avenues for everyone.
