Burgundy Cotton Rug
$525.00|Made in Venezuela
The Burgundy Cotton Rug has been handwoven by Idanela Martin on a horizontal loom with 100% cotton. Her inspiration on this rug comes from the electronic board of Boeing Planes. Based in Merida at the Venezuelan Andes, Idanela’s Textile Art Workshop has been a hub of experimentation and production for diverse techniques, threads and fibers for over three decades.
These rugs draw upon the weaving traditions of the Tuareg, Saharan nomads, who weave when they set up camp by using their tents as an anchoring point.

This Burgundy Cotton Rug is a beautiful addition to any home. Handmade by the talented Venezuelan weaver Idanela Martin and her assistants, these pieces are truly unique. Their bright, bold design provides the perfect canvas for creating contemporary combinations, with mixed patterns and textures. They are thus versatile: as suitable for hosting a special event as they are for enjoying a casual meal with loved ones.
Idanela Martin created this rug in her Arte Textil workshop in Merida, a gorgeous town in the Venezuelan Andes. Perched above a gorge and surrounded by densely wooded mountains, it is a constant source of inspiration. Due to this, nature plays a hugely informative role in her work.
Idanela is widely recognized in the fabric arts and has, among other things, earned UNESCO recognition for her work. This is because she is constantly developing her practice. Through it she explores the world’s diverse weaving practices, and melds them with her distinctive style. As a result, her work is a cultural and historical journey through the art of weaving, from indigenous Amazonian traditions to the practices of Saharan nomad. With the help of her assistants Victor and Yelitza, she creates pieces that explore the very essence of humanity. Because of all this, collectors around the world prize Idanela’s work.
In Idanela’s owns words: “We came to this world to weave: weave tapestries of thought; of poetry; of peace.”
