Ophelia has captured Nebulas and galaxies into her bowls. Basically she wants to reflect any part of space into her tableware and pots. She creates with hand building; this makes each one to have a different form and colour. Therefore impossible to produce the exact same piece again.
Hand building Technique, used white slip on black clay, drawn with underglaze and then transparent glaze applied.
Ophelia is a handmade ceramics brand based in Hackney, London. I’m an artist who uses different mediums but enjoys a lot when it comes to clay and cement. I’ve decided to lean into more approachable form, something that could be used every day and created Ophelia.
Ophelia is my persona. I’ve created an alter ego so that I could easily reflect the duality within myself, which gave me a relief in the acceptance. I’ve chosen this name in relation to Hamlet’s Ophelia and Ophelia being the Uranus’s moon.
The first derivative was to form the surface of the moon. The black and white plates are the first ones that I did. Then I’ve made the lunar phases plates. I’ve made new planets and captured Nebulas and galaxies into my bowls. Basically I’m trying to reflect any part of space into my tableware and pots. I create with hand building; this makes each one to have a different form and colour. Therefore impossible to produce the exact same piece again.
