Handwoven by Jivi men and women, nomads indigenous to the Amazon, these hammocks are made from fiber of the moriche palm, found on the banks of the Orinoco River. Easy to sling between trees in the dense jungle, they provide a perfect place to rest and em-body the craft and skill of a culture.
When the moriche palm is not in season, Jivis use alternative plant fiber sources to weave. These hammocks, or ‘chinchorros’, are usually devoid of decoration or ornamentation, unlike many other Amazonian cultures.
