GREEN PORCELAIN BUD VASE
The function of this piece can be as a bud vase but conceptually the object shows the possibility of various colours and textures in ceramics.
“Glaze” called “The skin of ceramics” is intriguing part in ceramics, the chemical reaction from raw material in the kiln was extraordinary. Using glaze makes feel like working in between as an artist but also scientist. The unique surface was created by the integration of technical skills and understanding of material. This work is a result of material research among 200 different recipes.
Ahryun Lee graduated from Royal College of Art, UK (2016), having studied ceramics in South Korea and UK, she explores numerous creative possibilities by embracing different perspectives between East and West. Her practice has developed in varied ways based on using a combination of professional skills alongside fundamental knowledge of materials.
These bottles are an interesting project; questioning about how we remember the taste in our memories and how the senses can be visually translated in the object. The concept of Ahryun’s design stems from the memories of her childhood that how she built up memories and perception about the taste. In her childhood “tactility” was the important aspect to get to know about the world so touching sensibility was the beginning idea to develop this project.
