LARGE LAVA ROCK PLATTER
This decorative plate, designed and handcrafted in Mexico from volcanic rock, is part of PECA’s LAVA collection. Both loud and minimalist, the muted tones and vibrant textures of this gorgeous piece will enliven any space it’s in. The deeply scored off-centre cut separates a smoothly polished sliver from the unpolished body of the plate, creating a tonal contrast which speaks volumes without saying a word.
Volcanic rock is a witness to the unassuming yet bombastic power of nature; a literal product of fiery eruptions, the porous result tells a story of raw, unbridled potency and fiery beauty. Hand-polished by skilled craftsmen trained in millenary traditions, the unruly organic form is transformed into a geometric, human object. The dual texture of the LAVA pieces are both an homage to nature and the cultural wealth of Mexico, and a nod towards modernist sensibilities.
PECA is an independent design studio based in Guadalajara, Mexico, which works to create objects that have the power to make spaces beautiful in an unassuming, subtle but absolute manner. PECA’s pieces are studies in attention to detail, with each and every aspect of the object, no matter how small, having been carefully and caringly designed to perfection.
Caterina Moretti, the mastermind behind the studio, is an architect-designer who has been creating quirky, original objects since 2007. Unique accent pieces that light up (sometimes literally) their surroundings are PECA’s trademark, and Caterina never misses the mark. Whether she’s working alone, collaboratively with other designers or curating the work of guest artists, PECA produces only the most beautiful, surprising designs in the highest quality materials.
