Jesus Romero is a leading light of Venezuela’s contemporary craft movement. His combination of traditional techniques and modern design results in a beautiful and unique wooden base cake stand.
Jesus comes from a family of carpenters, with techniques being passed down through generations. Because of this, he learned to work wood from a young age. While he began by helping his uncle, he was soon doing his own work. He quickly became an expert in local techniques and traditional styles.
Venezuela has a rich history of woodworking, with each region having distinctive practices. Jesus Romero worked hard to learn them and developed his own practice as a result. His studies in industrial design and production further feed his passion and influenced his work.
Thanks to his particular style and talent, Romero’s pieces have been shown in galleries and museums around the world. Jesus now runs the Romero Workshop in Merida, where he develops new wooden cake stands and continues to redefine Venezuelan craft.
These mixed wood cake pedestals are created using traditional Venezuelan cabinetmaking techniques. The exotic woods are all responsibly sourced and selected for their color, strength and natural properties. As a result, each cake stand is a unique and durable artifact with a beautiful story.
The exotic hardwoods used in this cake pedestal are sensitive to humidity. Do not submerge or soak in water. It’s best to keep them away from heat sources and out of direct sunlight to avoid damage. Furthermore, it is advisable to store them safely during colder months. This is because fluctuations in temperature can affect the molecular structure. Clean your wood pizza paddle with a dry cloth.
The texture of your cake pedestal will change with time. Depending on the frequency of use, you should hydrate it to preserve the surface and prevent it from drying out. Use oils such as flaxseed, sunflower, olive, teak, or beeswax at least once a month for maintenance. When applying, let it absorb for 6 hours and then blot with a napkin to remove the excess.
