$89.00|Made in Morocco
The Moroccan Safi red bowl is a beautiful piece you will love at home. Ideal to serve fresh salads, rice, roast, fruits and more.
The distinctive ceramics of Safi have the characteristic of using highly calcific local clay, rich in iron oxide. The unique material is mixed with water, wood and a selection of chemical compounds; creating the uniquely gorgeous pieces for which the city is known.
Each piece is hand thrown and left to dry before a coat of kaolin-based varnish is applied, giving it the creamy sheen of porcelain. The piece is once again left to dry before firing; with the subsequent cooling period lasting up to two days. The pieces are fired, cooled and hand-decorated. As a result, each artisan is in charge of painting the delicate symmetrical designs for serving plates.

Safi is a city on the Atlantic area of the Moroccan Coast, famous for its fishermen, ceramicists and the surfers who gravitate to its sandy beaches. A destination that is little known for tourists; in other words, the country’s vibrant ceramic scene has a special place in the city of Safi in Morocco; known for its artisan talents. Safi is the site of the first ceramics school in Africa. On the other hand, Colline des Potiers is where the city concentrates much of the ceramics. Here are over 140 individual workshops employing more than 20,000 artisans. Safi’s ceramics quarter is a truly unique place and one of the unseen gems of North Africa.
