Casa Alfarera Santo Domingo SRL
Casa Alfarera Santo Domingo is the creator behind this Pineapple Container. This stoneware workshop run by a group of artisanal makers is located in the historical colonial city of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
The Venezuelan potter Ysabela Molini founded the workshop in 2013, after graduating from the Practicing Institute in New York. Since then, the workshop has grown organically. Molini established the workshop on three main principles, which continue to be informative. These are: purity of materials and processes, strict focus on craft and establishing strong relationships with customers. As a result, Casa Alfarera Santo Domingo continues to grow successfully. As more work arrives, the workshop expand their operation and train more people in the artisanal art of crafting stoneware. Many of the workshop’s newer recruits are young, and learning a lifetime craft from masters who were once in their position. Casa Alfarera Santo Domingo is thus helping maintain traditional practices that have been passed down through generations.
Casa Alfarera Santo Domingo specializes in utilitarian ceramics for architectural applications. Their finished pieces reflect the many steps taken in production, from mining to firing. They source the majority of their raw materials locally, and process them in-house. This allows them to ensure the utmost quality, from start to finish. Their wares are hand-thrown by skilled Dominican potters before being fired at 1250 degrees celsius, achieving the perfect results.
