Stoneware Brown Coffee Cups Set
$74.00| 6 pieces |
Handmade in Tintorero, Venezuela, a small town known for its crafts, this stoneware set of cups represents the survival of a tradition created with local materials that are still alive despite the passage of time and historical changes. Typical of the region, these cups transfer that feeling of coming from the “earth”, material from which they were created.
The history of craftsmanship in Tintorero dates back to 1895, when a “cacique” named Don Juan Evangelista Torrealba alogside his wife Juana Paola Montes, formed at the foot of the mound “El Ermitaño” (The Hermit) a workshop where they began this wonderful history of weaving, continuing thus with the inheritance left by the natives of the area.
Don Juan Evangelista Torrealba turned his workshop into the first and largest of the whole village and he inherited his art to Sixto Sarmiento, who at the age of 15 started working on the loom and was in charge, during the 20th century, that this tradition didn’t get lost. Nowadays, the fabrics, the Ceramics, the typical wood carving, the “criollo” sweets and the jewelry are the most demanded products of the region.
