Cándida Fernández de Calderón is a researcher and historian that has dedicated her life to honoring the great masters of Mexican folk art. She has been the director of Fomento Cultural Banamex since 1992, a non for profit organization that promotes and supports Mexican arts and culture. In her time as a director of this institution, Fernández has promoted the historical and artistic research of Mexican culture, collaborated with the release of 40 award-winning publications, she has overseen the restoration of historic buildings and archaeological sites, and has been curator of over 47 exhibitions in America, Europe and Asia.

There is no doubt that she is an authority on Mexican culture and tradition, so it would have been unforgivable for us to go to Mexico and not pay her a visit, to discuss art, artisans and their role in modern society.
