They ensure they do not take out all the eyes, thus guaranteeing the tree’s survival. This strenuous task of harvesting Carnaúba palms is typically performed by men with skills using a machete and sickle.
The pivotal drying process takes two distinct paths. They sun-dry some of their straw for three days, imbuing it with a distinctive grayish hue. In contrast, they carefully dry the rest in the shade, resulting in a beautiful greenish tint.
Originally, their products crafted from Carnaúba palm straw included a wide array of personal accessories and household objects, such as hats, mats, brooms, and baskets. As the tourism sector expanded, they evolved the palm basket and similar creations into even more sophisticated artisan made, perfect for modern days.
Talented women lead the artful weaving process, working from the comfort of their homes. This allows them to care for their families and increase their income. They have a network of 32 dedicated women. Raw materials are distributed to each worker, who lovingly weaves Yellow and Natural Palm Basket and other items after tending to their families’ needs.
