A label we can’t get enough off.
If we look back, women have always had a strong connection with art, as muses and creators. Though at times spaces have been more crowded by men, creativity is at the core of feminine nature.
Today “Made by a woman” is a quality label, one that we, at Maison Numen, highly appreciate, and that’s because we know what a creative woman is capable of if she is allowed to work and flourish: powerful pieces that transcend borders.
Take Idanela Martin, for example, she earned a UNESCO recognition for her work with fabrics. She is keeping traditional Amazonian weaving techniques alive, while giving birth to beautiful and timeless textiles, from weaved rugs to handmade placemats, all from her home/workshop in Venezuela.
In the other side of the Ocean, another craftswoman is giving lessons to a whole generation of makers; this is Vanessa Mitrani. Mitrani is the kind of woman that defines her own path. She decided not to practice her craft of glassblowing, as much as reinventing it by incorporating diverse materials, from leather to iron, in ingenious and imaginative ways. As a result, she became a respected figure in her field, not only in Europe, but worldwide.
There is also Bluetiful’s work. This Latin American brand empowers women from El Salvador struggling with poverty. How do they do it? Through their work. In order to accomplish their mission, Bluetiful provides skills to women, guaranteeing their economic independence, while supporting small, local organic indigo farms to create their dazzling textiles, like their distinctive organic tie-dye placemats.
