Gray Wool Throw
$296.00|Made in Mexico
This throw or cover comes from Chamula, Chiapas in Southwestern Mexico. The traditional textile process is quite complex, and includes spinning the wool with a wooden spindle into threads of specific characteristics of tension and thickness to form both the weft and the warp for the loom. Also, the time-consuming process of weaving the threads with a back-strap loom is accompanied by a series of additional steps for washing, carding, felting, dyeing and cotton embroidering.

The backstrap loom is a technique widely spread throughout Central America since pre-Hispanic times. This loom is portable and made of sticks and strings, and a strap adjusted to the waist of the weaver, the reason for its name. One end of the loom is tied to a tree or a pole, and the other end is tied to the lower part of the waist, allowing to control the tension of the loom with the weight of the weaver.
