Creator

Arudeko

Arudeko created this Bird Of Paradise Pillow Cover II Set using a traditional pedal loom. While slower and more laborious than mechanized weaving, this approach produces unique, hand made results.

Sisters Nailea and Denisse Arnaiz, both textile designers, founded Arudeko in 2016. They collaborate with Oaxacan artisans to create wool rugs and pillows on pedal looms. Skilled experts in traditional techniques, these artisans turn the Arnaiz sisters’ designs into reality. After eighteen months, the Arnaiz sisters decided to expand their production to include cotton, and have never looked back.

Arudeko seeks to promote cross cultural collaborations and knowledge exchange through their work. By creating custom pillow cover, they’re able to develop both their own design practice and the crafting traditions of their artisans. Each product is carefully hand made, and carries a bit of soul and love from the makers. To avoid depletion, it is thus traditional for weavers to work as teams, taking turns on the loom.

This piece is part of the Wanderlust capsule collection. This collection takes inspiration from the diverse flavors, sensations and experiences lived by Humboldt and Bonpland on their famous 1799 exploration of Latin America. European explorers brought with them a unique worldview, informed by reason, science, mathematics and logic. They thus interpreted the novelties they encountered through this rubric. As a result, the Wanderlust capsule collection features traditionally produced pieces that represent the indigenous heritages of the people these European explorers encountered. This allows for a more nuanced understanding of the region, and results in a gorgeous collection of special pieces.
