Idanela Martin created this handwoven table runner in her Arte Textil workshop in Merida, a gorgeous town in the Venezuelan Andes. Perched above a gorge and surrounded by densely wooded mountains, it is a constant source of inspiration. Due to this, nature plays a hugely informative role in her work.
Idanela is widely recognized in the fabric arts and has, among other things, earned UNESCO recognition for her work. This is because she is constantly developing her practice. Through it, she explores the world’s diverse weaving practices and melds them with her distinctive style. As a result, her work is a cultural and historical journey through the art of weaving, from indigenous Amazonian traditions to the practices of Saharan nomad. With the help of her assistants Victor and Yelitza, she creates handwoven tableware that explores the very essence of humanity. Because of all this, collectors around the world prize Idanela’s work.
In Idanela’s owns words: “We came to this world to weave: weave tapestries of thought; of poetry; of peace.”
