You could say Paulina Parlange is one of those people that has hacked life; she lives half of the time in Mexico City, in Frida Kahlo’s neighborhood, where you can hear the birds tweeting in the morning, and there’s absolute peace in her glorious garden; and the rest of the time she spends in the Oaxaca coast, where her life drastically changes. She lives in a house with no electricity, so she wakes up with the sunrise, the water comes straight from the rain, and practices yoga daily.
Jealous? So are we.
MEXICO CITY
6:30 – I wake up really early and put on a little water to make coffee
6:40 – I take my dog out for a walk. It’s very nice to walk in this neighborhood; it is full of trees, ash trees, pines, and flowers
7:20 – I go back to organize my day, go on the computer, check everything that’s up. The morning goes on like that
12:30 – I eat in my garden
2:00 – When I am in Mexico City I dedicate the afternoon to go to an exhibition, maybe catch a movie.

OAXACA
6:00 – I walk to a yoga studio near the house where I live in, I like to work out a little bit
9:00 – I enjoy reading, a lot. And Oaxaca is the place where I can really take time to do it.
Whatsapp has been the most practical system to communicate with artisans, it used to be by phone, but this was very expensive for them.
They will send me a message, we will exchange images of what we want for our handmade products. I am always available for them because I do follow up on production.
I am pleased to participate in other daily activities, I don’t only sit, work, and design our handmade products with the artisans. I live with on the coast of Oaxaca, I also visit the families, new-born babies, I try to make a community. It is easier to do this when you live in a small town. I’m trying to spend more time there.
